County emergency management directors are required to have 48 hours of training each year.
Half of those hours are to be classroom hours while the other half may be independent
study hours. The Federal Emergency Management Agency's online training site offers
independent study courses.

NIMS Requirements

Here is a list of the new NIMS compliant courses which follow NIMS guidelines.
View a copy of the NIMS Guidelines for training within organizations.

  • IS-100 (ICS-100) is available as an on-line or classroom delivered course.

This course is currently available in Law Enforcement and Public Works

specific versions, other discipline specific versions become available later.

  • IS-200 (ICS-200) is available as an on-line or classroom delivered course. 

  • G-300 (ICS-300) is available at state level. 
  • G-400 (ICS-400) is available at state level. 
  • IS-700 is available as an on-line or classroom delivered course.
  • IS-800.A is available as an on-line or classroom delivered course

 

 FY 2011 EMPG Requirements

FY 2011 EMPG Program funds may be used for a range of emergency management-related
 trainingactivities to enhance the capabilities of State and local emergency management personnel
through the establishment, support, conduct, and attendance of training. Training activities
should align to a current, Multi-Year TEP developed through an annual TEPW. Further
guidance concerning the Training and Exercise Plan and the Training and Exercise Plan
Workshop can be found at https://hseep.dhs.gov. Training should foster the development of a
community oriented approach to emergency management that emphasizes engagement at the
community level, strengthens best practices, and provides a path toward building sustainable
resilience. All EMPG Program funded personnel shall participate in no less than three
exercises in a 12 month period and shall complete the following training requirements and
record proof of completion.
